“Good morning,” Constanza purred as she opened her eyes, rolling over onto Everett. The bed sheets slid off her naked frame. She kissed her way up his chest to his chin.
“Good morning,” he answered with a smile, reaching up to stroke her cheek. She purred, holding his hand against her the right side of her face and she nipped at his fingers as her other hand slid down his chest, over his stomach to between his legs.
“Mmmm,” she purred. “Looks like someone else is awake, too. I’m glad I didn’t wear either of you out last night.”
He chuckled, rubbing her arms up to her shoulders as he sat up, cradling her in his lap. “I’ve got plenty of energy these days,” he told her with a charming smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, but the woman didn’t notice.
“I’ll say,” Constanza agreed, pressing her forehead against his. “And I appreciate it. Not that I’m complaining or trying to look a gift horse in the mouth, but why play the oak for so long when we could have been doing this all along?” She whispered the next few words. “I’ve always been here, waiting for you to see me.”
He cupped her head in his hands, looking into her eyes. “Because,” he said. “It took me this long to realize how much I needed to be here.”
She smiled.
Everett knew exactly which vertebrae to break, and he made it quick. The woman didn’t have any time to realize what was happening before he snapped her neck with one clean, brutal twist. Constanza felt neither pain nor fear before she collapsed into his arms like a broken puppet. Her eyes were still open, a warm, heartfelt grin frozen on her face, somehow more accusing than any expression of betrayal.
